 Volunteer Time Log

Why is it important to keep track of your hours?
You can submit your time spent doing PTA volunteer work for Grapevine Elementary - either at school after business hours or at home online.  After you’ve submitted your hours spent volunteering, the information is collected by our volunteer coordinator and a report is generated. This information is then provided to the School Superintendent’s office. Keeping track of hours is one of many ways we measure the success of our volunteer program. Volunteer hours are also an important factor in applying for grants and in gaining other recognition for our school. So please remember, it makes a huge difference to our school when you accurately track your hours.

** Note: If you signed in at school (when volunteering during school hours) you do not have to log your hours online, as the information has already been recorded.

What You Can Do!

How can you help make GES a better school for your child? Help out a little! Volunteers are needed to help with special activities offered to students and staff.

  • You could help coordinate volunteers for Art Gallery Guides or Jr. Achievement.
  • Be part of the Carnival Team helping student volunteer, booth assignments, auction items, class baskets or ticket sales.
  • Lead our Environmentalist in recycling or planting.
  • Support GRACE with a food drive and donations.
  • Youth Protection decorates for Red Ribbon Week.
Join the PTA
If you do nothing else, please consider joining the PTA. Just click the link to join right on this website, it is fast and easy. You need only join once a year. Both mom and dad can [should] join, as well as relatives, seniors, etc.. Register on this PTA website if you haven’t already done so. We are trying to be "green" and use less paper in communications, so we hope to send electronically if the majority of parents is registered. Help us communicate more effectively in providing your e-mail address.

Also check us out on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with the latest news. Follow the links below to find us. With so many ways to communicate we can save money and be "green" at the same time.

Stay Informed
Scour those backpacks for flyers! We all know they have a way of disappearing between school and home! Check here, our website, regularly. We will continue to try to keep content fresh, timely, and relevant. Email anyone on the PTA board if you have questions or suggestions. Stay in the loop! Come to our general meetings. Check out the caledar for meeting times.

Volunteer
We need help! All year, every year. It takes a village, really, to accomplish all we do for the children. Please consider volunteering some time this coming year to help us out. You'll be glad you did. If you would like to volunteer at GES or have any questions, please contact Kimberley Davis, PTA Volunteer Coordinator.

PTA Board Minimize

Each year your PTA supports over $30,000 in school activities and resources for our children:

  • Field Trips
  • Santa USA
  • GES Bank
  • Class room supplies
  • Scholarships
  • Reading programs
  • Technology equipment
  • Facility repairs & improvement
  • Arts in Education Programs
  • Yearbook
  • Breakfast for Heritage Day

This year due to GCISD budget shortfalls your PTA will support the following activities, among others, for our children:

  • Choir
  • Student Council
  • KGES
  • PAT

I’m sure you agree that all of these programs have a major impact on our children and are worthy of your support.

Take a moment now and support YOUR PTA by paying dues, making a donation, and even advertising in the GES Directory to support these programs for our children.

Go online at www.gespta.org

At the top right click "PTA Dues"

PTA dues are only $8: you will receive a much needed GES PTA Directory that fits nicely in your car’s glove box. Donations of $30 per child are what will make all of these programs a success for our children. Thank you for your support.

Please use this form to order F.A.S.T. Coupons. Order forms will also be available in the F.A.S.T. file folder in the PTA Box in the GES Workroom.  Certificates can be ordered in the amounts of .25c, .50c or $1.00.  Please make sure you submit your order form with one week's notice.  Also, contact Natalie Walden when turning in an order form to ensure prompt delivery.

If you have any questions about FAST or the FAST Coupons, please contact Natalie Walden at gnwalden@gmail.com.

GCISD Attendance Letters:
GCISD District Policy requires that we keep each child’s parent or guardian informed of their student’s attendance record.  Therefore, district attendance letters will be sent when a student’s absence reaches 5, 7 or 10 days.  The letter is intended to keep parents informed of their child’s absences and whether the absences were recorded as excused or unexcused.  Please remember to call the GES office if your child is absent and send a parent note or doctor’s note when your child returns to school.  More attendance information can be found on page 18 of the Student/Parent Handbook.

Attendance Reminders:
Please remember that you need to call the office when your child is absent and to also send a note when they return. If we do not hear from you regarding your child's absence then they are considered unexcused. We did not count tardies this week, but I have noticed there are children coming in after the 7:45 AM tardy bell. Please remember that you can drop your child(ren) off as early as 7:20 and we will start keeping track of tardies next week. Tardies do count as a partial day absence. After School Care:
Just a reminder that we will be enforcing last year’s policies regarding children waiting in the office after school for their parents to arrive.  In an effort to end our day, we will be taking your children to Kidz-U promptly at 3:05 PM if they have not been picked up.

Kidz-U will not charge you the first time your child is left, but after the initial visit, you will be charged a fee.  For your convenience, in addition to their full time program, Kidz-U does offer a one hour option after school.

Safety Reminder:
Due to the high volume of cars within the parking lot as students arrive and leave the campus each day on the west side of our building, we must encourage everyone either to use the driveway for curb-side drop-off and pick-up of students or to park their vehicle within the parking lot and walk with the students to and from the crosswalk.  We believe this investment of time will help to ensure the safety of all of our students at GES.  Thank you for your continued support!

Small Playground:
Due to the size of Kidz-U, we need to give them sole access to the small playground after school.  Parents, if you would like for your children to play on the playground after school, please take them to the large playground.  Look for signs in the next few weeks.  Thank you for your cooperation to this adjustment.

Volunteers:
We have had some recent questions about signing in as a "volunteer" in the office. First, everyone needs to complete the background check on-line on the GCISD website if you have not done so already. When you come into the office, please try and sign in as a "volunteer." If your name is not in the computer, PLEASE write your name down on the white paper below the computer screen and we will enter it once your name is cleared through the district. ***Please note, once you have been entered as a volunteer you will need to come back and enter your hours manually, we are not keeping track of that information in the office! Also, due to confidentiality and simple courtesy, ALL VOLUNTEERS, PLEASE exit the office by going by Mrs. McPherson's desk and out the WORKROOM. We have entirely too much traffic by the principal's offices and through the lounge. We sincerely appreciate your assistance as we keep our office a quiet and safe work environment. We appreciate all you do for our students.

Box Tops for Education

Box Tops:  2010-11 Recap:  Officially $1,994 but final and third contest of the year missed the May 1st deadline to be included on the BTFE website.  We collected another $793 which would have given us a new record: $2,790.  This $793 is now a balance forward for our 2011-12 year, getting us off to a fast start.  Our goal for this new school year will be another record:  $3,000.  100% of BTFE money went into the GES Capital Improvement fund ($7000) earmarked for school iTouch pads, library audio-visual equipment and fans.  Help us earn more money this year to fill the gap left by deep budget cuts!

Labels for Education:  Our point total by the end of August will be 24, 234, another new school record!  These points will be redeemed for goodies to be included in the 2011 fall carnival auction.  Don't do any holiday shopping before attending this year's auction with these great toys:  razor scooter, toddler wagon for two, walkie talkies, aquabrite aquarium, IPOD and a compact disc player.  Who says collecting LFE isn't worth the effort?

First BTFE/LFE contest in mid-September.....more details soon!
